Michael Williams
Principal AI Research Scientist
SLB
Michael John (Mike) Williams has 30 years’ experience across numerical methods and remote sensing, primarily for energy services. He has worked on large scale physics simulation for porous media flow, geomechanics, and fluid mechanics; defined statistical methods for analysing microseismic events caused by hydraulic fracturing; developed the use of fibre-optic distributed sensing for geoscience applications; and pioneered neurosymbolic real-time risk assessors. Currently a Research Program Manager for SLB, he is responsible for the Automation and Planning group which research trusted automated decision-making. In recent years this group has supported the development of neurosymbolic and cyberphysical systems deployed globally as part of SLB’s energy transition strategy.
